An SMM panel is a website with money and a customer base, which makes it a target: from competitors to automated bots. Security here isn't a "later" task but a condition for stable operation and customer trust.
DDoS attacks
The most common one is DDoS: the panel is flooded with requests and stops loading. While the site is down, customers can't order and you lose turnover. You need traffic filtering that cuts off the attack and keeps the panel available.
Encryption (SSL)
An SSL certificate encrypts data between the customer and the panel — logins, passwords, payments. Without it data can be intercepted, and browsers flag the site as insecure, which kills trust. Every domain needs a certificate.
Backups
The database is your customers, balances and orders. A server failure, a mistake or an attack can damage it. Regular backups let you recover without data loss. The backup you don't have at the moment of failure is the most expensive one.
Access and the human factor
People get broken more often than technology. Most panel incidents don't start with a sophisticated attack but with simple things: one password across all services, an admin area without two-factor authentication, access granted to a contractor "for a couple of days" three years ago.
- Separate passwords for email, domain, panel and provider accounts — email matters most, since everything else is recovered through it.
- Two-factor authentication everywhere it exists, starting with the domain and email.
- Individual staff accounts instead of a shared admin login — when someone leaves, you revoke their access.
- A quarterly access review: who can still log into your panel right now.
Fraud through the panel
Besides outside attacks there's abuse from within: payments with stolen cards, attempts to cash out through refunds, farming referral bonuses. This isn't an abstract risk — with a stream of chargebacks the payment gateway simply terminates the contract and the panel is left unable to take money.
Baseline protection: refunds to the internal balance instead of cards, a cap on the first top-up for new accounts, manual review of large payments from fresh accounts, and keeping order history — which doubles as proof of delivery in a dispute.
What renting covers
With your own script it all falls on you: configuring protection, renewing certificates, regular backups, monitoring. With a rented ready panel, infrastructure security — DDoS protection, SSL, backups — is on the service side. You run the business, not the servers. And you can start for free: up to 100 orders a month aren't charged, and protection is on from day one.
